Cyprus tax dispute resolution.
Objection. Appeal. Resolution.
Received a tax assessment you disagree with? We handle objections, appeals to the Tax Tribunal and double tax treaty claims — protecting your rights through every stage of the dispute process.
We review the Tax Department's assessment, identify grounds for objection, prepare the formal submission and negotiate with the Tax Commissioner.
The Tax Tribunal is an independent body that hears appeals against Tax Commissioner determinations. We prepare the case, file documentation and represent you at hearings.
Where income has been taxed in two jurisdictions, we apply for treaty relief and, where necessary, initiate the Mutual Agreement Procedure for resolution between tax authorities.
Your rights in a Cyprus tax dispute
Every Cyprus taxpayer has the right to challenge a tax assessment they consider incorrect. The objection process allows you to formally dispute an assessment within 60 days of receiving it. You do not need to pay the disputed tax while the objection is under review — though interest continues to accrue on any amount ultimately found to be due.
The Tax Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body providing a formal appeal mechanism outside the Tax Department. Decisions of the Tax Tribunal can be further appealed to the Supreme Court of Cyprus on questions of law. For cross-border disputes, the EU Tax Dispute Resolution Directive (2017/1852) provides a framework for MAP resolution within a defined timeframe.
Cyprus has double tax treaties with 65+ countries providing reduced withholding tax rates, tie-breaker residency rules and mutual agreement procedures.
